ABOUT USA PATHWAYS


USA Pathways Basketball provides athletes with a unique dual opportunity. The participating athletes are provided with an opportunity to secure a scholarship to the following options: High School, Academy’s, Community Colleges, NAIA and NCAA Colleges/Universities.

They also experience the day to day basketball life of a college athlete at Massanutten Military Academy in Virginia, recognised as one of the elite powerhouse PG programs in the US, where they live on campus for the duration of the tour.

The athletes participate in daily individual and team intensive skills, practise sessions and weights under the direction of MMA’s outstanding coaching staff, led by Head Curtis Peery.

They play in tournaments, are hosted by multiple powerhouse college/university programs such as Virginia, Georgetown and Maryland and interact first hand with multiple US coaches.

The tours are co-ordinated by USA Pathways Director Greg Jones and Massanutten Military Academy Director of Basketball Operations and Head Coach Curtis Peery.

Coach: Steve Sardi

Coach Sardi, Director, USA Pathways Basketball
Coach Sardi has been coaching since the age of 16 back in 1977. Coach Sardi is a passionate coach involved in the Penrith Panthers Basketball Association representative program, NSW Basketball State Metro program, Penrith Club programs, St Pauls Grammar School program and in 2017 joined the USA Pathways and is helping the program to grow.

  • Coach Sardi has led Penrith Panthers to win two championship titles one in the juniors and one in the seniors NSW basketball program. The last time the Penrith Panthers YLM won a championship in this division was 1995. It’s taken 24 years for the Panthers YLM to come back to the Championship winning circle.
  • 2008 Assistant Coach to Penrith’s U16s Div2 final four and Runners up in State Cup.
  • 2009 Head Coach Penrith U18s Div2 final four
  • Head Coach of the 2010 U/18 Div1 to a Championship title, Runners up in the State Championship.
  • 2011 Head Coach in the School Canadian Tournament at Abbotsford Runners up in Championship game.

Coach: Scott Balsar

Coach Balsar, Director, USA Pathways Basketball
Coach Balsar as had a well distinguished coaching career steering the Shoalhaven Tigers State League Women’s team to back-to-back titles in 2007 and 2008. He was at the helm of the Tiger men’s program where in 2011 he took them to their first grand final appearance in the NSW State League competition in 22 years.
In 2005, Balsar created history with his NSW Country U18 Women’s state team winning a national championship in Perth- the first time ever a NSW Country Women’s side had won a national title from this history making event. Balsar was named the Basketball NSW Coach of the Year in 2005 which was then topped off at the Basketball Australia National Awards where he picked up the highly prestigious Basketball Australia National Junior Male Coach of the Year Scott has been a Head Coach for NSW State teams for over 10 years of most recent he took the NSW Under 20 Women in 2017 winning a silver medal followed by a bronze in 2018 at the Australian National Championships.
In 2015 -16 Scott was appointed the assistant Coach of the Canberra Capitals in the WNBL and he has been the Director of Coaching at Shoalhaven Basketball Association for over 15 years. He took their Youth League Men’s team to a Waratah League Division 2 title in 2018 in their maiden season with a 22 -2 record and he is currently the Head Coach of the Illawarra Hawks Youth League Division 1 Men’s program for the 2020 Spalding Waratah Season.

Coach Greg Jones

Coach Jones has over 30 years experience both in Australia and overseas in the US High School, Academy and College system.

Coach: Curtis Peery

Curtis Peery was named Head Post Grad Coach after serving one year as an Assistant Coach and the Athletic Director at Massanutten Military Academy. Prior to MMA, Mr. Peery served two years at Ferrum College as Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach beginning July 2016. Peery came to Ferrum from Roanoke College, where he served two years as an Assistant Coach. Peery also served as Head Men’s JV Basketball Coach. Prior to Roanoke he served two years as Assistant Men’s Basketball Coach at University of Maryland-Eastern Shore from 2012-14, and three years as a graduate assistant at UMES.
Peery was a standout for Roanoke as a player, closing his career in 2009 in the #11 spot in school history in scoring with 1,349 career points. He also finished 11th in career rebounds with 649 and 10th in career free throws with 304. Roanoke’s win/loss was a combined 68-39 during his four-year playing career. Peery’s career honors include: Roanoke All-Century Team 2013, VaSID All-State first team in 2009, All-South Region second team in 2009, ODAC All-Conference first team in 2009, CNU Invitational All-Tournament Team and MVP in 2009, W&L Classic All-Tournament Team in 2009, ODAC All-Conference honorable mention in 2008, Domino’s Classic All-Tournament Team 2007, 2008 and 2009 (MVP in 2008), V-Foundation All-Tournament Team in 2007 and 2009 (MVP in 2009), ODAC All-Conference second team in 2007 and ODAC All-Tournament Team in 2007.
Peery graduated from Roanoke with a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration in 2009, then went on to earn his Master’s degree in Criminal Justice & Criminology from Maryland Eastern Shore in 2011.

Coach: Bob  Gallager

Bob Gallager joined Massanutten Military Academy’s post graduate basketball staff as an assistant coach in May of 2018. Gallager comes to Woodstock after 6 years at St. Bonaventure University, where he served as a student manager for four seasons before being elevated to graduate assistant for the final two.
In his last five years at St. Bonaventure, the Bonnies won at least 18 games in each season and set a school record of 26 wins in 2017-2018. The 26-win season includes a victory over the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in the First Four of the 2018 NCAA Tournament.
At St. Bonaventure, Gallager was responsible for all video operations including recruiting and scouting edits, as well as organizing the player development program. A constant presence in individual workouts, Gallager was instrumental in the development of 15 players who went on to sign professional contracts, including Atlantic-10 Conference Player of the Year— Jaylen Adams, who recently signed a deal in the NBA with the Atlanta Hawks. In addition to his time as a student manager and graduate assistant, Gallager has also worked as an intern at the Hoop Group Elite Camps and served as the director of the Mark Schmidt Basketball Camp.
A native of Syracuse, NY, Gallager graduated from St. Bonaventure in 2015 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism and mass communications. Now Coach Bob Gallager has moved on to be Special Assistant to the Head Coach @ Southern Utah University.
